Checklist to start with
Do we have a common project?
Without
a
project,
there
is
little
to
organize.
There
is
actually
no
need
for
a
special
method
of
self-organization
when
people
work
side
by
side
or
always
work
together
in
the
same
way.
Good
"house
rules"
would
be
enough.
Only
when
it
comes
to
something that is new or always different does it become exciting.
Do we want to organize the project together?
Would
you
prefer
to
have
a
leader
who
then
takes
responsibility
for
all
their
decisions,
or
do
you
want
to
be
the
boss
as
a
team?
This
also
gives
you
responsibility
for
the
project and your decisions.
Can we choose to work together in a caring way?
Do
you
want
to
say
goodbye
to
a
dominant
or
functional
team
culture
/
corporate
culture
and
move
on
to
caring
cooperation,
beyond
likeable
and
unlikeable?
Otherwise, self-organization will hardly work for long.
(
See hurdle
1
)
Are we ready to resolve our tensions and conflicts effectively and quickly?
In
conflict,
self-organization
comes
to
a
standstill
because
there
is
not
enough
peace
for
good
cooperation.
This
requires
the
will
to
engage
in
mediation
or
other
conflict
resolution.
The
difficult
part
is
not
so
much
the
solution
itself,
but
bringing
the
conflicting parties together openly.
(
See hurdle
2
and
3
)
Are we prepared to recognize each other's strengths and weaknesses?
In
a
good
team,
everyone
knows
the
strengths
and
weaknesses
relevant
to
the
project
and
can
therefore
work
together
intelligently.
Are
you
prepared
to
be
open
and
mindful
and
to
learn
from
each
other
without
wanting
to
treat
or
psychologically
counsel each other?
(
See hurdle
1
)
Are we ready to follow our own path in life in a caring and individual way?
NVC-plus
helps
you
to
do
your
thing
together
with
others.
This
requires
your
personal
"where
to",
your
individual
utopia
or
vision
for
the
project
and
perhaps
even
beyond.
It
automatically
activates
your
energy,
your
commitment
and
your
power
of
implementation.
Do
you
know
your
utopia
in
the
context
of
the
project?
Does
it
concern the path, the goal or the cooperation?
(See hurdle 4 / utopia and vision)
Do we have adequate or at least sufficient peace with each other?
Without
sufficient
peace,
cooperation
becomes
formal,
people
move
away
from
each
other
and
communication
lacks
quality
and
quantity.
The
people
in
the
team
no
longer
really
want
to
get
involved
with
each
other.
People
don't
have
to
love
each
other,
but
an
appropriate
level
of
peace
is
the
basic
requirement
for
a
team
as
a
boss.
(
See hurdle
2
and
3
)

your
initial
situation
for
a
team as a boss. It's best to fill it out together.

6 Hurdles to Self-Organization
Chapter 14 – The Checklist for getting started
Successful
cooperation
is
both
a
path
and
a
goal.
Good
methods
and
tools
make
it
much
easier
for
a
team
to
organize
itself.
Encourage
your
team
to
take
the
first
steps
in
this
direction
and
experience the difference.
Every team, start-up, or company must overcome these six hurdles if it wants to organize itself
collegially in order to successfully manage projects from within the community.
